Learn all about the geology and lead mining history of the beautiful Slitt Wood in Weardale with this 20-page colour walk guidebook.
The walk starts and finishes in Westgate and follows a riverside route through woodlands and out on to moorland lanes with outstanding views. The guidebook will help walkers discover the area’s rich lead and ironstone mining heritage, and some of the local plants and birdlife too.
Where to buy the guide
The guide, priced £2 can be bought from some local Tourist Information Centres, visitor centres and shops, or can be ordered by writing to North Pennines AONB Partnership, Weardale Business Centre, The Old Co-op Building, 1 Martin Street, Stanhope, Bishop Auckland, County Durham DL13 2UY. Please enclose a cheque for the full amount (includes postage and packing) made out to ‘Friends of the North Pennines’. Don’t forget to include your address, phone number and email address so that we can contact you about your order if we need to (your details will not be used for any other reason).
