This summer the North Pennines AONB Partnership is running an exciting photography competition thanks to funding from the National Lottery. The theme will be the geology and landscapes of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Beauty and UNESCO Global Geopark. The top entries will be displayed in local galleries later in the year.
The competition is open to anyone, with a separate category for under 18s. A selection of entries in each category will form part of an exhibition at the Witham, Barnard Castle in October, and at Allendale Forge Studios in November. Entries will also be displayed on the screens at Bowlees Visitor Centre in Teesdale. The winner in each category will also receive a £50 voucher for bespoke framing services at North Pennine Studios.
The aim of the competition is to showcase this outstanding landscape, and the geology that underlies it all and makes this environment what it is today. This area has a geological history stretching back 500 million years, but photographers of all abilities are forever capturing its ever-changing beauty and helping us all to see it in new ways.
To enter the competition, follow the link at the bottom of this page. Entries are limited to one per person and must be received before the competition closes on Sunday 1 September. Please see the full list of rules below.
The competition and exhibition are supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of the North Pennines AONB Partnership’s Earthworks project, which connects visitors and local people with the area’s world-class geological heritage through events, workshops, publications and art installations. The project also links to the INTERREG Atlantic Area programme of the European Regional Development Fund, as part of the European Atlantic Geotourism Route.
