The new ‘Explore North Pennines’ activity portal has gone live!
The new ‘Explore North Pennines’ activity portal has ‘gone live’ in VisitEngland’s England Tourism Week. The searchable, interactive map-based site has been developed by the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Partnership. It brings together an amazing range of activities and visitor information across the AONB.
The www.explorenorthpennines.org.uk website was unveiled this week to tourism businesses from around the North Pennines. The launch at the Durham Dales Centre in Stanhope marks the beginning of the on-going development of the portal.
New resource for visitors & local communities
The new resource, which has been part funded by the Weardale Area Action Partnership, has been in development since October last year. The site is designed to bring activity information together in one place for the whole of the North Pennines. As well as being useful to visitors to the AONB it should also be a great resource for people who live and work in the area.
Chris Woodley-Stewart, Director of the AONB Partnership, ‘pushed the button’ to launch the site and said: “Products and activities that are closely connected to the stunning landscape of the North Pennines work best here. However the information needs to be accessible to visitors in an easy-to-use way before economic benefit can be reaped. Explore North Pennines showcases the fantastic activities and attractions of the North Pennines in one place. At its heart is an interactive map that allows people to search by activity, interest, location and facilities.”
Conservation Trainee Gearoid Murphy, from the AONB Partnership who has led the portal’s development said: “It’s well worth a browse to discover what this amazing place has to offer. There are downloads of walks and cycle routes alongside information such as great places to see wildlife, stargazing opportunities, fishing details and fabulous horse rides.”
Responding to feedback
Simon Wilson, Project development Officer with the AONB Partnership added: ‘We have developed the Explore North Pennines website following feedback from tourism businesses that identified the need for up-to-date online information about the things that their customers come to the North Pennines to see and do. As part of the site you’ll find ‘landing pages’ for different parts of the AONB – www.exploreweardale.org.uk, www.explorealstonmoor.org.uk, www.exploreblanchland.org.uk, www.exploreteesdale.org.uk and www.exploreallenvalleys.org.uk.”
