Events, Festivals and Shows
There is a huge variety of events, festivals and activities on offer in the North Pennines. From May Day celebrations, village fairs and carnivals to walking festivals, leek shows and horse fairs - there's plenty to suit all tastes. The best way to find out about them is to contact Tourist Information Centres in and around the AONB

Selected Events and Festivals in 2010
- North Pennines AONB Events Programme - running between March and October 2010 with 26 events across the North Pennines.
- Northern Rocks 2010 - the North Pennines Festival of Geology and Landscape. This year the Festival runs between 22 May and 6 June.
- Poems and Pints with Simon Armitage at Langdon Beck Hotel - Friday 16 July

Show time!
Agricultural shows are an excellent day out for the whole family, as well as being an opportunity to find out more about the rural way of life in the North Pennines. You'll find stalls selling local produce and crafts; rural skills demonstrations; animals from sheep, cattle and poultry to goats, guinea pigs and ducks; as well as programmes of events from sheep dog trials to pony fancy dress! Poems & Pints with Simon Armitage at Langdon Beck
In July 2010 award-winning poet Simon Armitage is walking the Pennine Way and writing a book about his experiences on Britain's first (and arguably finest) National Trails. On Friday 16 July he'll be resting his head at the Langdon Beck Hotel (Upper Teesdale), courtesy of the North Pennines AONB Partnership. Poems & Pints with Simon Armitage will kick off at 8pm - it's free but pre-booking is ESSENTIAL, call the AONB Partnership on 01388 528801 to secure your place!
