A taste of the North Pennines
Lovers of fresh local produce can discover some of what's available in the North Pennines at a mini-farmers' market at Allen Mill this Wednesday (March 10).

As part of a training day for people working in tourism, the North Pennines AONB Partnership has helped organise a trial market bringing together some of the region's producers of local foods on a site that also houses the Allendale Bakery and the Allendale Brewery.
Peter Samsom, Deputy Director of the North Pennines AONB Partnership said:
"The North Pennines AONB and the North of England in general produce some of wonderful products, but they are not always so easy to find. Working with the owners of the Allen Mill site near Catton and the Know Your North Pennines Training Scheme, we hope to help raise awareness of the range of high quality produce you can buy."
Local producers
In addition to the Allendale Bakery and Allendale Brewery, producers coming to the market include the Bluebell Organics of Barnard Castle, Cumberland Mustard based in Alston; the Northumbria Soup Company of Newcastle; Loughbrow House Preserves, Hexham and TOC Aromatherapy based in Craghead, County Durham.
The Allen Mill Mini Market will take place on Wednesday 10 March 2010 between 1pm and 4.30pm. Allen Mill lies on the River east Allen between Catton and Allendale Town in Northumberland.
The event is part of a two-year training scheme for people working in tourism. Know Your North Pennines aims to provide tourism operators the in-depth knowledge to tell their visitors about all the special qualities of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is funded through the North Pennine Dales Leader scheme.
