Celebration of Peatlands

Peatlands are a globally important ecosystem, however their roles in planetary carbon dioxide regulation, water provisioning and as a habitat are not widely appreciated.

We are encouraging people to understand, value and enjoy our peatlands in a number of ways:

Working with our partners on a series of events. Events this year included a Grouse Moor Secrets open day on June 12th 2010. See our 2010/11 pocket guide  for more information.

Helping our local schools use peatlands in their work. We hope to expand this work.

Placing over 50 peatland stories in a range of media, including television. See our Spring & Summer 2009 issue of North Pennines news.

Writing and distributing a range of publications  about our peatlands.
