Promotion of Best Practice

Through its Peatscapes project, the North Pennines AONB Partnership is working at many different levels to try and positively influence land management practice and policy.

We are influencing land management practice and policy in an number of ways:

Local advice and support on peatland restoration to over 100 land managers through site visits, surveys and training events.

Demonstration days with local contractors to showcase grip blocking techniques. Our most recent demonstration was in March 2009 on Killhope Moor with Carrick Contractors Ltd.

Regional, national and international conservation seminar and conference attendance, including running a workshop at the September 2009 Europarc conference in Sweden.

Working with colleagues and other agencies to prevent inappropriate development on our peatlands, including improving guidance on moorland roads.
