Join us at Raby Castle to learn about the night sky, including the autumn constellations visible from the UK. You will also discover the best conditions, times of the month, and times of day to continue your explorations, as well as how to choose a telescope and/or a pair of binoculars. We will also cover how to use free and low-cost software and mobile apps to help you find your way around the stars. If conditions are clear, we will head outside for a tour of the night sky, using astronomy binoculars (provided).
- Date: Tuesday 29 October 2019, 6 to 7.30pm
- Venue: Raby Castle, Staindrop (DL2 3AH)
- Booking: Pre-booking essential via Bookeo
- Cost: £15 per person
You will learn how to identify some of the main constellations, the brightest stars and other objects. There will be fact sheets to take away, to help you make further observations on your own. Children (five years plus) are welcome, but must be accompanied by at least one (paying) adult. Includes a 10 to 20 minute flat walk.
Once you reserve your place(s) for the event, expect an email around two days before, with meeting place and any other important details.
Even on a relatively pleasant night, temperatures soon drop after the Sun has gone down, and you may be standing still outdoors for a while. You do not need to bring any observing equipment, everything will be provided.
This event is part of the North Pennines Stargazing Festival running from 23 October to 3 November 2019. #NorthPennStarFest19 #NPennDarkSkies
