The North Pennines is a fantastic place to get away from it all. Whilst you visit this stunning place please make sure that you have a positive impact on the area’s environment and communities.
A special place
The North Pennines is one of England’s most special places – a peaceful, unspoilt landscape with a rich history and vibrant natural beauty. It was designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1988. It is also a UNESCO Global Geopark. Much of the North Pennines is also designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
Green tourism businesses
There are a number of tourism businesses (including accommodation providers) in the North Pennines which have Green Tourism awards or the Bellamy Award Scheme – when you visit them you can be sure that the environmental impact of your stay is being considered and reduced wherever possible.
