The visitor centre at Bowlees provides an ideal base from which to explore and find out about the landscape of the North Pennines
Unique geology and range of habitats make Upper Teesdale an ideal place for learning and exploration outside the classroom. Schools are welcome to arrange their own visits or book a visit led by North Pennines AONB Partnership staff. We are happy to work with you to devise a visit which helps you to meet the aims of the new 2014 curriculum and the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework 2012.
Exploring and Learning
Our staff can help schools deliver a range of activities which include scientific and geological enquiry, art and literacy activities as well as exploration, map reading or even an outdoor cooking session. We are also happy to work with teachers to devise specific programmes as necessary.
All activities are risk assessed and delivered by staff with appropriate CRB checks and first aid qualifications. Activities can be adapted to ensure that they can be accessed by all pupils. Please be aware that wheelchair access to some areas of the site is not possible. Pre-visits by teaching staff are encouraged but this is not essential.
Education for all
Learning doesn’t stop when you leave school! If you are interested in booking a visit for an adult learning course, U3A or other youth or adult group please get in touch. We are happy to work with you to plan a visit which meets your needs.
