Working at the national level
The National Association for AONBs acts on behalf of the AONB family to promote the interests of our Protected Landscapes and the communities, nature and culture found there.
In the past year the NAAONB has been at the forefront of brokering our new relationship with Defra (our new sponsor body) and developing our ongoing relationship with Natural England and other national organisations.
The NAAONB's work, especially over the past 18 months, has helped to place AONBs at the heart of Government thinking on conservation and rural sustainable development. It's also certainly true that without the new arrangement with Defra, and the quality of the relationships developed, AONBs would have been hit much harder by the cuts facing any organisation in receipt of Government funds. During the year covered by this annual review the Director of the AONB Partnership (Chris Woodley-Stewart) was elected to the NAAONB Board and is currently Vice Chairman.
