Promotion of best practice

Through its Peatscapes project, the North Pennines AONB Partnership is working at many different levels to try and positively influence land management practice and policy.

We are doing this in an number of ways:

  • Providing local advice and support on peatland restoration to over 100 land managers through site visits, surveys and training events.
  • Sharing our work with other partnership peatland restoration projects across the UK. We hosted visiting parties from Northern Ireland, northern Scotland and south west England during 2010.
  • Helping to stimulate appropriate national and international policy development through our support of the IUCN UK Peatland Programme including fund raising for their 2010 conference at Durham University.
  • Working with colleagues and other agencies to prevent inappropriate development on our peatlands, including improving guidance on moorland roads
