There are lots of interesting and exciting events planned for throughout 2014 to help you explore the wilds of the wonderful North Pennines
We're just putting the finishing touches to an exciting programme of events that you can get involved with throughout 2014.
Whether you're interested in the area's geology, want to learn to identify some of our flowers and animals, unearth some long-buried treasures or head out on a long walk, there's always something going on.
Our full range of events will be finalised over the next few weeks so keep coming back to check on how you can get involved. But for now, here are a couple of highlights to whet your appetite.
Wild about wildlife?
WildWatch North Pennines is a project to encourage and help you record wildlife in and around the AONB, helping us to conserve biodiversity. You can now book on our training events here to learn more about how to identify and enjoy the wildlife in our landscape.
Just click through to the WildWatch pages to see what events are available, register for free as a recorder and so you can secure your place.
Bowlees Visitor Centre
Events will be held throughout the year at our new visitor centre in Upper Teesdale. Each month will see something different, from family fun days through to specialist wildlife activities.
In April we start our events programme with a willow workshop and in June we are hosting our first birthday bash, which will include a Great Public Biohunt where we encourage you to come along and make nature count by recording species throughout the day and into the night.
To celebrate our famous Earth heitage you find lots of geologically themed events happening in late May and early June.
Kids geology days at Killhope Museum on 24 May and 7 June
A walk up High Cup Nick on May 27
Rocks and Romans - a walk combining archaeology and geology at Epiacum Roman Fort on June 5
Most of our events are advance booking only to ensure enjoyment and safety for each group. Leaders will not accept you without a booking. Please only book on events that you fully mean to attend; you may prevent someone else taking part if you don’t turn up. If you do need to cancel - let us know! Unfortunately if you cancel your booking within a week of the event date and the event subsequently goes ahead, we will be unable to refund the booking fee.
Events designed for families are clearly identified. Where appropriate minimum age limits are also provided. If in doubt call 01388 528801 for advice.
Please note that dogs are not allowed on any of our events.
