On Saturday 10 February 2018, Bowlees Visitor Centre in Teesdale will be re-opening for the season. This year, at the award winning attraction run by the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Partnership, there is more on the menu than great walks, wonderful wildlife and stunning scenery as the Centre welcomes new catering business The Ford Kitchen @ Bowlees.
Cheryl Laver, chef and proprietor of The Ford Kitchen is a real foodie and is promising delights such as full afternoon tea and homebaked cakes alongside mouth-watering specials such as ‘Hot Italian Porchetta sandwich’ and ‘Porcini and chestnut mushroom quiche’.
Local produce will appear on the menu ranging from Teesdale cheeses to Stanhope Bangers! Cheryl said: “We are delighted to be taking over the catering license at Bowlees and are looking forward to helping provide a warm welcome to visitors”. She continued: “It’s wonderful to be working with local producers and businesses and incorporating their produce into the menu. The North Pennines AONB and surrounding areas have some truly exciting and delicious food resources within them giving us a great opportunity to have a changing menu which showcases what’s on offer locally”.
Mandy Oliver, Visitor Services Officer with the AONB Partnership said: “We are looking forward to a busy year at Bowlees Visitor Centre. We’ve got a full programme of events, activities and workshops for people to enjoy alongside some beautiful exhibitions by local artists in our upstairs gallery”.
Set in attractive woodland Bowlees Visitor Centre is the perfect introduction to the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and UNESCO Global Geopark. As well as enjoying the wildlife on-site, visitors can walk to Low Force, High Force and Summerhill Force (Gibson’s Cave) waterfalls, find out about the AONB and local area and shop for local produce, art and gifts in the award-winning centre. The centre has a range of events throughout the year including regular Wild Wednesday’s and Discovery Club days aimed at younger visitors.
The Centre is open daily, 10 February – 18 February, weekends only 19 February – 16 March and daily 17 March – 28 October. More details here
